Get Involved
There are many ways that you can get involved in the Cross-over projects and functions.
Women of Wisdom spirituality group (WOW)
The WOW group meets on the second Monday of each month from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the California Institution for Women (CIW). Community participants come together with women inside for spiritual reflection and conversation. This is a non-denominational circle. Participation requires an ongoing commitment—this is not a one-time event. Volunteers are invited to meet for a no host early dinner at Mimi’s Café, in Chino at 4:15pm prior to going over to the prison. Contact Jan Urban, for additional information or to get involved.
Women of Wisdom Annual Retreat (WOW)
An annual retreat for WOW is a special full day event held inside the prison for women on the outside and women on the inside. Lunch is catered in and volunteers bring salads, desserts and morning refreshments. A retreat coordinator sets the focus for the day and the women inside create the environment and begin the day with a ritual of gathering. Donations are welcome to support this incredible day. Women in prison share that for this one day, they feel as if they are lifted out of prison and are FREE. Contact Jan Urban, for additional information or to get involved.
The Prison Garden Project
Community members join women at CIW to work on an organic garden that will provide produce for the CIW kitchen. A commitment to attend at least three gardening sessions is required for clearance. No gardening experience is necessary! Donations of gardening tools and other items are also needed, as is financial support. (Send checks payable to CRJW, 5411 Camellia Ave., North Hollywood, CA 91601.) Donations are tax-deductible.
